As business owners ourselves, we can’t imagine being anything but. It’s true we still need regular workers for our businesses, but if you’re interested in starting your own and finding out what it’s like to be your boss (and even other people’s boss) then here are five ideas for you to consider.
Be aware that businesses take serious time and effort. These are not a way to become wealthy in a short amount of time. You’ll have to switch gears from the mindset of an employee, where you clock in and out, and that’s it for the day, to always working on your business until you’ve made it. Also bear in mind that A LOT of businesses fail, but don’t let that stop you from achieving success. You only fail if you stop trying.
Businesses You Can Start Now
Being a consultant is an excellent way to start building your own business. If you have any skills or specialized knowledge, then you can probably charge people that access it.
People will be paying you for your experience as a way to shortcut their success, so if you have a degree in something or spent a great deal of time in any career, then you can most likely build your consulting services using it.
2. Financial Planner
If you have taken an interest in finances, done your own, or spend time in investing, then becoming a financial planner may be for you. Once you get your Certified Financial Planner’s (CFP) Certificate, you’ll have all you need to start taking on clients.
3. Home Inspection
Being a home inspector is an excellent way to make a high income. If you enjoy real estate, construction, building materials, etc. then inspecting homes is a fitting and flexible business to start.
The clientele is very much like that of real estate agents, so you’ll want to network with them. Speaking of which, being a real estate agent is another excellent choice, and many people are both a home inspector and a Realtor.
4. Marketing Copywriter
Copywriting is one of the most essential skills in the marketing of any kind. If you’re at all into creating online products or properties, then this skill goes hand-in-hand with the industry. Almost every top-level internet blog, personality, or product needs an expert copywriter that knows how to sell. So, by taking a few lessons, buying a couple of books, and getting a mentor, you could create a business that’s hugely in demand.
5. Personal Training
Are you fit? Have you lost weight and kept it off? Then you know more about the subject than anyone currently overweight or weak. This is one of the skills that come with self-experience;, if it worked for you, then it can work for others (with some modifications). One big part of personal training is that you need to be able to motivate people to do something they don’t want to do, and that’s a tricky skill. One downside to this business is that many will want to see some certifications to trust you, so you may need to obtain some schooling. You could also (in theory) skip being a personal trainer and instead build a personal training empire where other trainers are under you. In this model, you create the means for them to get more clients.
